Belen, a city in Valencia County in the central region of New Mexico, comes in 1st as the most dangerous city with a 9247 crime rate per 100,000 people. Coming next is Taos, a small town located in the north-central part of New Mexico that is considered to be the state’s the 2nd most dangerous place to live in. The state's capital, Santa Fe, ranks 4th in population and 14th in terms of safety. Major cities like Las Cruces and Roswell rank at #18 and #19 respectively.

Home to the University of New Mexico and the largest international balloon festival in the world with a population of 561,560 residents, Albuquerque ranked at #27 in terms of safety.
